The use of disposable filter masks to protect against the Covid-19 virus is important but very strenuous, as you have to breathe through the filter. The Viennese designers have developed a respirator that uses UV-C radiation to sterilize the air and make breathing easy. The components are manufactured by 3D printing.
UV-C light is already used worldwide for decontamination of public transport as well as ambulances and hospitals. A new feature of the Lumino system is its direct application to the air we breathe. This air is passed through a UV-C lamp and thus disinfected.
The advantage over a classical mask is easier breathing and reusability. While a mask requires strenuous breathing through the filter, the Lumino system provides the air by overpressure. As the system uses a special Philips radiation lamp optimised for disinfection, it can be operated for up to 9000 hours.
Another advantage of the system is the possible decontamination of the air from the system. This not only prevents the wearer from being infected by his or her environment, but also reliably protects the wearer’s environment from being infected.
The Lumino ventilation system is designed for portability. It has a very powerful replaceable battery and can be used non-stop for up to 9 hours. Everything has been designed for long continuous use, the system works completely autonomously. It is designed to provide the best possible support for users who are already under particular stress.
